Barry Scouts & Guides Annual Fete History
Origin
The first Scout event held at Romilly Park was in 1933, when it was called a KYMSPAUMI
Finance
The Event is of paramount importance to the finances of the Scouts and Guides, and represents almost 50% of their annual income raised from the public.
Present Fetes
The revival of the Barry Scout Fetes was resurrected after the 2nd World War, when the groups were desperate to raise funds for the local groups.
We are now organising the 52th since the present series began, and they continue to go from strength to strength.
In 1985 the scouts invited their sister movement the guides to take part, and in 1988 the introduction of professional acts into the Arena had a beneficial effect and boosted the attendances.
Committee
The Event is organised by a committee of lay officials with representatives from each group. Planning normally commences immediately after one years event, in preparation for the next year.
